Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying or reproducing someone else's work, ideas, or words without proper acknowledgment.
- Paraphrasing or rephrasing text from another source without giving credit.
- Using figures, tables, or data from other sources without appropriate citation.
- Submitting a manuscript that contains significant overlap with the author’s previously published work (self-plagiarism) without proper citation or disclosure.
- Plagiarism Detection
To ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts:
- All submissions are screened using reliable plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate) before the peer review process begins.
- Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% (excluding references) are flagged for review and clarification.
- Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage (submission, review, or post-publication), the following actions may be taken:
- Minor Plagiarism (Unintentional)
- The authors are notified, and they must revise the manuscript to ensure proper citation and originality.
- The manuscript may be sent back for re-review after revisions.
- Major Plagiarism (Intentional or Extensive)
- The manuscript is rejected outright.
- If plagiarism is detected post-publication, the article will be retracted with a public notice, and the reason for retraction will be clearly stated on the journal’s website.
- Authors may be blacklisted from submitting to the journal in the future.
- The author’s institution and/or funding agency may be notified of the misconduct.
- Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are required to:
- Submit original work and appropriately cite all sources, including ideas, data, and text from others.
- Disclose if the manuscript includes content that has been previously published or is under consideration elsewhere (e.g., preprints).
- Responsibilities of Reviewers and Editors
- Reviewers and editors are encouraged to report any suspected plagiarism they identify during the review process.
- Editors will investigate all claims of plagiarism thoroughly and follow the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines when handling such cases.
